Statement of Short Essays

Write short essays according to the following instructions:

  • The topic of each essay is given bellow. All the topics from 1 to 4 are required.
  • The length of each essay should be 500 words or less.
  • Write the topic number and your name at the upper right corner of each page.
  • If you have anything else you would like the admission committee to know, you can add extra papers as a topic 5 after topic 4.
  • Use A4 papers only.
  • Use a word processor for writing and a printer for printing the essays. Handwriting is not acceptable.

Topics of Short Essays

  • How and why did you come to be interested in Sustainability? Describe your personal history and experience.
  • What is the most serious failure in your life until now? What efforts did you make to overcome this failure? How would you like to make use of that experience in the future?
  • The spread of insect-borne infectious diseases such as malaria and dengue fever is a major concern which could be brought about by climate change. In order to eradicate these mediating insects, it is proposed to spray DDT (Dichloro-diphenyl- trichloroethane), a persistent agricultural chemical. Supposing that you have the authority to decide whether it should be executed or not, describe what kind of decision you would make and why.
  • Describe how the academic and/or professional field you have learnt is related to studying sustainability science at the Master's Program in Sustainability Science. And depict your career plan and explain its relation with these academic and professional training including studying at our program.
