- Graduate Program in Sustainability (GPSS) has initiated a reconstruction supporting project named “Sustainable town development rooted in human and natural resources” with the help of the Headquarters for Disaster countermeasures, the University of Tokyo. As a part of the project, we have conducted interview surveys to local businesses hit by the tsunami. Based on the survey results, we launched the website "Saving the Taste of Tohoku" to support the reconstruction of tsunami-affected areas. The website was established upon the request of Coastal Regional Development Bureau, Iwate Prefecture. It aims to send the information of businesses which work diligently on the restoration and reconstruction, as well as strengthen the supporting network including consumers of local products. The website will be updated on a regular base to reflect our latest survey results.
These activities were reported by the Mainichi Daily News. We also presented our project in the open lecture for citizens organized by Graduate School of Frontier Sciences, the University of Tokyo.
