Minor Program in Sustainability Science

Minor Program in Sustainability Science (MPSS)

1. The Minor Program offers students an opportunity to engage with the foundations and practices of Sustainability Science, to study in English, and to gain experience in collaborative learning. The program provides students from other departments with access to the core curriculum of the Graduate Program in Sustainability Science (GPSS), where they study alongside GPSS students. All courses in the program are conducted in English.

2. The program aims to cultivate individuals who can view environmental challenges from a global perspective and reflect on their own research topics within that broader context. It also provides opportunities to develop in a diverse and international environment with students from around the world. For Japanese students in particular, the program serves as a platform to gain the experience necessary to work professionally in the international community.

3. The curriculum consists of seminars that examine and discuss sustainability challenges across disciplinary boundaries, as well as lectures that convey the essential foundations and practices of Sustainability Science.

Students who complete the program will receive a Certificate of Completion of the Minor Program in Sustainability Science. (GPSS students are not eligible to enroll in the Minor Program.)

Curriculum

Completion Requirements for the Minor Program in Sustainability Science

1. Students enrolled in the Sustainability Science Minor Program must complete at least five credits from the designated Minor Program courses, including “Seminar on Sustainability Science I”.

2. Students enrolled in the Graduate Program in Sustainability Science (GPSS) are not eligible to enroll in this Minor Program.
